Insurance Cover for Registered NDIS Providers
Under the NDIS Practice Standards, registered providers must hold adequate insurance for the supports they deliver. Getting it wrong risks your registration. We work with a range of insurers to arrange cover suited to your registration groups and services. Options include:
Public Liability Insurance
Mandatory cover for injury or property damage claims arising from service delivery. Registered providers often require a minimum of $10–$20 million cover. The exact requirements vary by registration group. We’ll discuss this with you.
Professional Indemnity Insurance
Mandatory for most providers to protect from claims arising from professional advice or services that cause a participant loss or harm. Required for clinical, therapeutic, and advisory service providers.
Worker’s Compensation Insurance
Mandatory where staff are employed. We can arrange this in ACT, WA, NT, and Tasmania only. For operations in all other states, placement is through your relevant state authority.
Management Liability Insurance
Covers directors and managers against claims arising from running the organisation — including employment practices and regulatory investigations. Relevant for incorporated providers with employed staff.
Commercial Vehicle Insurance
Covers vehicles used for participant transport and service delivery. From a single vehicle to a larger fleet, we arrange cover that reflects how your vehicles are actually used in connection with your services.
Cyber Insurance
NDIS providers hold sensitive participant data under the Privacy Act. Having cyber cover protects your service against the costs of a data breach, system compromise, and the required regulatory response.

Frequently Asked Questions
NDIS Provider Insurance FAQ
Is insurance mandatory for registered NDIS providers?
Yes. The NDIS Practice Standards require all registered providers to hold adequate and appropriate insurance as part of their governance and operational management obligations. The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission treats inadequate or lapsed insurance as a serious compliance breach — it can result in registration being refused, suspended, or cancelled. Maintaining current insurance and being able to produce certificates of currency on request is a non-negotiable requirement of registration.
What are the minimum insurance requirements for NDIS providers?
Minimum requirements vary depending on your registration groups and the services you deliver. As a general guide, registered providers are typically required to hold public liability insurance with a minimum limit of $10–$20 million, and professional indemnity insurance where clinical or advisory services are delivered. Workers compensation is mandatory where staff are employed. We’ll confirm the specific requirements that apply to your registration groups and services.
What happens if my insurance lapses during my registration period?
A lapse in cover is a serious compliance breach. The NDIS Commission can flag it as a non-conformance during an audit, and in serious cases it can lead to suspension or cancellation of your registration. Staying on top of renewal dates is critical — we manage this proactively on your behalf and will contact you well ahead of any renewal date.
Do I need different insurance for different registration groups?
Yes — insurance requirements vary across registration groups. Higher-risk services such as behaviour support, specialist disability accommodation, and clinical therapy attract different requirements and typically higher premiums than lower-risk services. We assess your full registration profile and arrange cover that meets the requirements across all of your registration groups.
How much does NDIS provider insurance cost?
Premiums vary significantly based on your registration groups, the services you deliver, the number of participants you support, your staffing levels, and your claims history. Because every NDIS provider organisation is different, we recommend speaking with us directly — we’ll compare options across the market and give you a clear picture of what’s available and at what cost for your specific situation.
